I love to write, and I have this ebook called Frightened Boy that I’ve been promoting all over the internet. What to expect?  A young man is caught up in a battle for reality fought between existential terrorists and the paranoia of a populace in the last metropolis in America.  Romance, tragedy, sex and violence. Existential terrorists, mind-bending artists, and banshee philosophers.

I also love to talk with other writers, so please don’t think I’m being impersonal. I can’t afford big advertisements, so this is just the best avenue I have to attract readers right now! But please, don’t think I won’t respond or check out your work in return. Quite the opposite – I want to make friends with as many writers as possible.  Other writers have become my greatest fans and friends, and I work as hard as possible to give in-depth, constructive feedback.  I try to seriously critique as many of the requests sent to me as is humanly possible.  If you are extra-nice and interested in a critique but haven't been able to track me down, you might have better luck reaching me by emailing:scott@scottkellywritesbooks.com

So why is Frightened Boy a free book, if I'm a published novelist? It's too weird for the market right now, I guess. People don't want to take a risk on something new, even though out the other side of their mouths they tend to say that's what everyone wants.

Well, here's that fresh new thing.

I'm trying to make it one of the most popular indie eBooks of the year. Writing is my entire purpose in life and the only measure by which I judge my self-worth.  I have a B.A. in literature and love to critique artist's work.

My entire book can be downloaded for free at (highlight then copy the following address, and then paste it into your URL bar at the top of your browser):

First book "Jimwamba" (Flame Books) was published in the UK in 2005 to rave reviews, and later I wrote alongside some fantasy/fiction vets like Tanith Lee and Jeffrey Ford (who won the Nebula and the World Fantasy Award that year.) The collaboration was called the "Book of Voices."

I have been reviewed in the Irish Times, the Compulsive Reader, etc. The Adirondack Review gave their highest rating of the year to Jimwamba.

Frightened Boy has been read over 2500 times (as of July 2010) since it was first posted on February 25, 2010, with an advertising budget of precisely $0. And across multiple writer's websites such as this one, it has received well over 300 glowingly positive reviews from my fellow writers.

New review for Frightened Boy!:

Reviews for my novel Jimwamba include:

"Scott Kelly's story of a game that turns into tyranny is at once crazily, wildly imaginitive and bound by a spine-chilling internal logic. It provides a whole new and terrifying take on the maxim: 'Beware what you wish for: you might get it.'

Jimwamba is short, sharp and shocking - a book that makes you want to meet its coolly accomplished young author - but only with plate glass in between." - Bestselling author Sarah Harrison.

"...Recommendation: I can't help but give this book my highest rating. It's rare to find any novel with such a perfect mix of wisdom and story arc. Pick it up and live a different life for a while." - Ace Boggess, the Adirondack Review

"What Scott Kelly has achieved in this his first published novel is no mean accomplishment. He has taken a rather fantastic premise and shaped it into a truly believable narrative. He has created a distinctive narrative voice to tell that story. Most of all he has written a book that will keep you turning pages if only to see how far the game and its players will go." - Jack Goodstein, The Compulsive Reader.

But why not click on the Frightened Boy book alongside the profile and just see what your fellow BookRix readers are saying?

Hi Scott

I have a story, Beam Down Scotty, I would really like to have your read on. I am thinking about a collection of fantasy stories such as this. I have about another 20 of a similar nature in the mill. Your honest opinion, and any comments you might have on market potential as well.

URL that should take you to Beam Down
