I'm trying to upload a copy of my book and the thing isn't working. I get that little circle thingy and it just keeps turning and turning without doing anything. I'm trying to upload a box set of my books so I can put it up for sale and I'm getting really frustrated. It's WAY too long to post chapter by chapter. I need help!!!!

I never thought to try headings. Do it doesn't matter which type of heading style? That might make the entire thing so much easier. Thanks! :)

Might be a stupid question...

Okay, with the new format, if you want to publish a book you have the option of "Friends" or "All Users". Is this with BR only or is this across all platforms for the "All Users"? I'm pretty confused!

Hi Lisa, To publish just means to make it public so you can make it public for free for all BookRix users or public for free for only your BookRix friends. If you want to publish it for sale in the shops (no longer an option to sell only on BookRix) then you have to set a price... Show more

Gotcha! Thanks, Lineh!

Price changes

On books published through BookRix, can you change the price once they're published? For example, I have three listed at $ 1.49. Could I lower it to $ 0.99? If so, how?

I have never published a book through bookrix, but based on what I have heard I believe the only way to change the price is to remove it and to then post it again at a later date. It will have to go through the process of being published all over again. As far as I know there is... Show more

luckyscar is right. It takes three weeks to remove it from the market and then you can republish it at the new price. I'm just doing that with the first in my mystery series.

Thanks, guys. It sure seems like there should be a better way of doing things than going back and starting over...

Hi John, it's true that you have to stop the sale of your book, wait the 4 week period to make any changes to your book (including editing the price) and then put the book back up for sale....It would be the same book with the same ISBN (with the new changes of course)...We are... Show more

Dear BookRixers,

We are pleased, that after strenuous days and nights of preparation for the re-launch of BookRix, we are back online with our new look and features. Although we have addressed the most important functions, due to our heavy workload there are still some features that are not fully optimized.

Images inside the books are not displayed as they should be on BookRix because of our reading display however, the... Show more

I noticed that your rules and regs mention that any copyrighted images and/or text will stop a book from being published, but what about the fair use policy when an author feels that what they have to offer....

When it comes to copyright and images, best to play it safe. Some images are in the public domain, others are not. Simply because a few, or many others are using an image, does not mean it doesn't belong to the creator, with all the intellectual rights that go along with it.... Show more

Well, I have checked the properties and details of each image that I grabbed and none of them have any copyright data on them.

some have a date modified or which programme was used to create them, but nothing else as to whom the owner is.

So they were either created without... Show more

But I am NOT an attorney by any stretch of the imagination.
In your case, I'd suggest asking the Administration here for guidance.
Also, It might be helpful in the credits of your book to mention the image sources, and thank the (anonymous?) creator(s).

I think I am safe too due to the topic of the book, the method of it, what it reveals and all of the above..

Once you've read the book, the things that make it fair use become clear.

ie

"Examples of fair use include news reporting, research, teaching,"

Well, I'm reporting on some... Show more

At this time I am just taking my time, to learn the site and to get familiar with those of you who have already published. In years past I published a weekly paper and usually had a column that I wrote each week. However to upload and to figure out how to put up a front page is still beyond me. So I will sniff around a little more until I get comfortable. If you have any suggestions or want to tell me how you got through this... Show more

Go to the 'Help' tab on the top right hand corner and find the other tab from the side bar called 'Upload Book'. You will see all the information you'll need to put your books up.

I know an e-book won't sell without some awesome graphic for a cover. Is there a free way to get your cover, or a very low-cost method to get the groundwork going for an aspiring, but low-in-the-pocketbook writer?

THE BASICS
We all need to start somewhere and having a good base of understanding what you need to do is key to being a successful author.

A Good Cover
Did you know that books with professionally designed covers sell twice as much as books with poor quality covers? We were just as shocked as you were, but it's the truth!
We've all heard the saying “Don't judge a book by its cover”, but don’t fool yourself! Even if a book’s... Show more

Have you read my mind? :) I was trying to figure out how to link my Amazon account with my book. I think Author Central answers my curiosity. I'll look at it further, thanks.
