Writing is your talent, your skill, and your greatness! Unfortunately, being an Indie Author comes with a downside: The grueling task of self-marketing. It’s a big, book-filled world out there, and without marketing, readers won’t know about you or your work. It’s kinda hard to be a... Show more

Why 10,000 e-books and not half of them or even less? Has someone reached half that amount or less on this site, by any chance?

It's a harsh challenge, but who knows? What if you ask your parents, then an aunt and then another? And what if you tell them to let their friends know how wonderful and cheap your book is? And that you're in a competition, but don't mention how much the prize is (you don't want them to take a piece... Show more

Hi Stephanie,
I agree a great blurb is essential as you need to attract readers to your book initially, in order to increase your sales.
Thanks for offering us the incentive to hone our editing skills on one of the key parts of our books.

Question about phrases.

I recently ran across three phrases when I was reading the other day. They are unfamiliar to me. Can anyone tell me what they mean?

1. "Nobody will ever come in through the backdoor again."

2. "No more white bunnies outside the window."

3. "If the man in the corner ever truly does want you, I'll be there with my hand in yours, until he takes us both."

The first one sounds a bit like a double entendre. The third one sounds like... Show more

Where did you read these?

XxwolfgurluntamedxX

o.e I don't know, I think the first one might mean that the past will never come back, the seconds... dumbfounded me. Three... some twisted stalker quote? That's all I can get from them haha

Glynis Rankin

The first is to be taken by surprise.

The second means.. Depending on the context, it has to do with Alice in Wonderland....Remember the Maxtrix and the rabbit tattoo. Metaphors that signify an invitation to step out of ordinary time.

The third .. Again depends on the context... Show more

Thanks, guys. Sounds reasonable to me. Stephen, I read these phrases from an old letter a friend wrote years ago. I just ran across it recently.

S.P. Johnson Jr.

In that case I'll agree with Glynis on all accounts, although the rabbit might have different significance according to specific cultures.

Here is a fun "What If..." question about a serious topic. This is from one of my classes, in a discussion on ethics:

What if this scenario happened to you:

"Your spouse is dying. One person has only one cure for the illness and has offered to sell it to you for $10,000 if you have the money within 24 hours. You do everything you can to raise the money but come up short. The person has another buyer and is going to give the... Show more

Very good questions. What a thought-pondering situation! This would make a great book, wouldn't it? Anyone want to take on the project? Lol!

Anyway, I recently watched a Lifetime movie where a woman was in a similar situation. Her daughter was dying and she needed a cure. She... Show more

Lifetime!!!!????

Men don't watch Lifetime, lol.

But seriously, that could be an interesting project. The only problem is that it's already been done :( Would it be like fan-fic to do that?

mysterywriter

I suppose it would be fan-fic. How cool!

Is the BookRix YA Contest “Be The Best (Seller) You Can Be!” contest over?

TanyaB.

It ends in June.

luckyscar

Why are there no entries yet?

TanyaB.

I think since we have until June to post our entries, many are still writing them and editing their stories.
I'm writing a story for the contest, but I still have 4/5 chapters for it to be finished. And after that, there's the editing part, which I need to do for my first 8... Show more

Hi Luckyscar, as you only get one shot (chance to enter) it is imperative that you polish your story until it glows.
However, I would aim at submitting your story by the beginning of June. This will allow for difficulties uploading your book & formatting issues.
