The chief inspector of minesshall have an office at the seat of government, in which he shallkeep the maps and plans of all mines in the state, and all records,correspondence, papers, apparatus, and other property belonging to
the state, pertaining to his office, in accessible and convenientform for reference by persons entitled to examine them, all of which he shall deliver to his successor in office.
