The translation doesn't match the original.

For instance, this fragment:
“Who wants to bother with cooking?” said Mishka. “It’s too much
trouble. We can eat bread and jam instead. There’s plenty of bread. We’ll
cook the porridge later on when we get hungry.”

The original says:
"Why bother with cooking?" said Mishka. "It's too much trouble. We'll eat all the bread and cook porridge for dinner. We can eat porridge with no bread".

And it's going on all over the book.
