This book was originally intended to provide a sense of acceptance and encouragement to children with speech impediments, but the author hopes it will provide some motivation to all children learning to read an write. Empathy and mentorship are also encouraged.
My son read this one too, and he really related well to it. He has a pretty severe speech impediment, and Maria made him smile, which is kind of a big deal around her during the school year. Maybe this one should see publication.
