Wes Walker and his friends knew that wizards, magic, and goblins weren’t real. Things like that only exist in fantasy stories and their favorite tabletop role-playing game, “MystikQuest.” So, how could they explain a dying goblin in Wes’s treehouse that afternoon? It had been trying to steal an old rock Wes had dug up, and the goblin’s last breath was a call to its master to come take the stone from its hand.
Wes and his five teenage friends, Marc, AJ, Tyler, Katie, and Schroeder discover that the stone is not a rock, but something ancient and mysterious that will defend itself by spinning elaborate illusions. And when Wes’s long-lost Uncle Dru, plus a black-clad wizard with red eyes, suddenly show up and begin fighting over the stone, the six friends are swept up in a real-life wizard war. As a defense mechanism, the stone magically transports the friends into the made-up world of their fantasy game.
Inhabiting the avatars of their game characters, a warrior, a wizard, a druid, an elf, a halfling, and a half-ogre, the friends must navigate through the game to somehow conclude its story in order for the stone to release them. Giant spiders, orcs, and dragons are only the beginning of their troubles. A powerful witch queen must be defeated in order to end the game. But is she now in league with the red-eyed wizard who followed them to the game world?
Everything seems real, but nothing is as it seems. Wes will have to find the truth from a world of fantasy and deception in order to save himself and his friends before they’re stuck in the stone’s illusion forever.
