Count Lev Nikolayevich Tolstoy (Russian: Лев Никола́евич Толсто́й, pronounced [lʲef nʲɪkɐˈlaɪvʲɪt͡ɕ tɐlˈstoj] ( listen); 9 September [O.S. 28 August] 1828 – 20 November [O.S. 7 November] 1910), also known as Leo Tolstoy, was a Russian writer, philosopher and political thinker who primarily wrote novels and short stories. Tolstoy was a master of realistic fiction and is widely considered one of the greatest novelists of all time. He is best known for two long novels, War and Peace (1869) and Anna Karenina (1877). Tolstoy first achieved literary acclaim in his 20s with his semi-autobiographical trilogy of novels, Childhood, Boyhood, and Youth (1852–1856) and Sevastopol Sketches (1855), based on his experiences in the Crimean War. His fiction output also includes two additional novels, dozens of short stories, and several famous novellas, including The Death of Ivan Ilyich, Family Happiness, and Hadji Murad. Sir Pelham Grenville Wodehouse, KBE (/ˈwʊdhaʊs/; 15 October 1881 – 14 February 1975) was an English humorist whose body of work includes novels, short stories, plays, poems, song lyrics and numerous pieces of journalism. He enjoyed enormous popular success during a career that lasted more than seventy years, and his many writings continue to be widely read. Despite the political and social upheavals that occurred during his life, much of which was spent in France and the United States, Wodehouse's main canvas remained that of a pre– and post–World War I English upper class society, reflecting his birth, education, and youthful writing career.
An acknowledged master of English prose, Wodehouse has been admired both by contemporaries such as Hilaire Belloc, Evelyn Waugh and Rudyard Kipling and by recent writers such as Christopher Hitchens, Stephen Fry,[1] Douglas Adams,[2] J. K. Rowling,[3] and John Le Carré.[4]
Best known today for the Jeeves and Blandings Castle novels and short stories, Wodehouse was also a playwright and lyricist who was part author and writer of 15 plays and of 250 lyrics for some 30 musical comedies, many of them produced in collaboration with Jerome Kern and Guy Bolton. He worked with Cole Porter on the musical Anything Goes (1934), wrote the lyrics for the hit song "Bill" in Kern's Show Boat (1927), wrote lyrics to Sigmund Romberg's music for the Gershwin – Romberg musical Rosalie (1928) and collaborated with Rudolf Friml on a musical version of The Three Musketeers (1928). In 1694 he was rector of the University of Paris, rendering great service among other things by reviving the study of Greek. He held that post for two years instead of one, and in 1699 was appointed principal of the Collège de Beauvais.
Rollin held Jansenist principles, and even went so far as to defend the miracles supposed to be worked at the tomb of François de Paris, commonly known as Deacon Paris. Unfortunately his religious opinions deprived him of his appointments and disqualified him for the rectorship, to which in 1719 he had been re-elected. It is said that the same reason prevented his election to the Académie française, though he was a member of the Academie des Inscriptions. Shortly before his death he protested publicly against the acceptance of the bull Unigenitus.
Rollin's literary work dates chiefly from the later years of his life, when he had been forbidden to teach. His once famous Ancient History (Paris, 1730–38), and the less generally read Roman History, which followed it, were avowed compilations, uncritical and somewhat inaccurate. But they instructed and interested, generation after generation. A more original and really important work was his Traité des études (Paris, 1726–31). It contains a summary of what was even then a reformed and innovative system of education, including a more frequent and extensive use of the vulgar tongue, and discarded the medieval traditions that had lingered in France. Thomas Platter (the Elder) (10 February 1499, Grächen, Valais – 26 January 1582, Basel) was a Swiss humanist scholar and writer.
His sons Felix Platter and Thomas Platter the Younger both studied medicine, a thwarted ambition of Platter's own early life.[1] Platter the Younger also kept a diary of travels in England which provided Shakespearean scholars with evidence for the dating of certain Shakespeare plays.[2] He wrote: "England is a woman's paradise and a servant's prison" (a quotation from publication by Thomas Platter the Younger, written in October 1599).
Thomas Platter (the Elder) was a master of several languages, knowing Latin, Greek, and Hebrew, among others. He grew up in poverty and, as a student, made a prolonged tour through Germany. After his return he first lived in Zürich, where he was an assistant to reformator Huldrych Zwingli. In 1531 he was an eye-witness of the Battle of Kappel, when Huldrych Zwingli was killed. Considering the political situation in Zürich after this war, he left for Basel, together with his paternal friend and mentor, the Protestant theologian Oswald Myconius. In Basel he earned himself a reputation as an early teacher of ancient languages and humanist studies. Together with Johannes Oporinus and Ruprecht Winter he led a printing house and published a large variety of classical editions.
His autobiography mostly deals with his youth and the history of how he became a well-known humanist scholar. It was read by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, and is one of the finest examples of the German autobiography of this time. [more]

Fenn, the third child and eldest son of a butler, Charles Fenn, was largely self-educated, teaching himself French, German and Italian. After studying at Battersea Training College for Teachers (1851–54), he became the master of a national school at Alford, Lincolnshire. He later became a printer, editor and publisher of short-lived periodicals, before attracting the attention of Charles Dickens and others with a sketch for All the Year Round in 1864. He contributed to Chambers's Journal and Once a Week. In 1866, he wrote a series of articles on working-class life for the newspaper The Star. These were collected and republished in four volumes. They were followed by a similar series in the Weekly Times.
Meanwhile he was married in 1855 to Susanna Leak, daughter of John Leak of Alford. They had two sons and six daughters.
Fenn's first story for boys, Hollowdell Grange, appeared in 1867. It was followed by a long list of other novels for juveniles and adults. Having become editor ofCassell's Magazine in 1870, he purchased Once a Week and edited it until it closed in 1879. He also wrote for the theatre.

Sir John Knox Laughton (23 April 1830 – 14 September 1915) was a British naval historian[1] and arguably the first to argue for the importance of the subject as an independent field of study. Beginning his working life as a mathematically trained civilian instructor for the Royal Navy, he later became Professor of Modern History at King's College London and a co-founder of the Navy Records Society. A prolific writer of lives, he penned the biographies of more than 900 naval personalities for the Dictionary of National Biography.[2]

Laughton was born in Liverpool on 23 April 1830, second son and youngest child of a former Master Mariner James Laughton of Liverpool (1777–1859) during times of war he was a captain of a privateer. James' first wife was Ann Potts who came of yeoman stock in Cumberland. He married twice and had 10 children including Vera Laughton Mathews. John Knox Laughton was educated at the Royal Institution School, Liverpool then Caius College, Cambridge where he sat for the mathematical tripos and graduated as a wrangler in 1852. He entered the navy as a naval instructor then joined his first ship the Royal George on 27 December 1853 to serve in the Baltic Wars. John Knox Laughton married his first wife during 1866 Isabella, daughter of John Carr of Dunfermline they had one son and three daughters and married his second wife during 1886 Maria Josefa, daughter of Eugenio di Alberti, of Cadiz, Spain; they had three sons and two daughters. Moderne Volkswirtschaften sind in hohem Maße von der kontinuierlichen Funktion und Funktionsweise von kritischen Infrastrukturen anhängig. Das gilt für die Schweiz genauso, wie für die benachbarten Staaten, Nordamerika, Japan und andere industrialisierte Länder. Den kritischen Infrastrukturen sind insbesondere die Sektoren Energie, Finanzen, Information und Kommunikation, Nahrung und Verkehr mit besonders relevanten Teilsektoren zuzurechnen.
Die Beeinträchtigung oder gar ein großflächiger Ausfall dieser Infrastrukturkomponenten kann für die Bevölkerung und die Wirtschaft zu erheblichen Problemen führen. Diese Beeinträchtigungen können im Extremfall dramatische Auswirkungen haben, die die Sicherheit des gesamten Staatsgebildes in Mitleidenschaft ziehen. Die wachsende Digitalisierung verschärft diese Problematik zusehends, weil heute Hacker von jedem Punkt dieser Erde aus kritischen Infrastrukturkomponenten attackieren und kompromittieren können. Es müssen nicht zwingend Attacken von außen sein, die das komplexe Konstrukt ins Wanken bringen. Das Beispiel Fukushima zeigt, dass auch Naturkatastrophen ein ganzes Land innerhalb von Minuten vor ungeahnte und zuvor unvorstellbare Herausforderungen stellen.
Die Eidgenossen haben mit der Strategie „Schutz Kritischer Infrastrukturen“ (SKI) ein Programm zum Schutz dieser Komponenten verabschiedet. Im Rahmen dieser Initiative wurde ein Masterplan zum Schutz der kritischen Infrastrukturkomponenten in eine Fülle von Leitfäden gegossen. Das Kernproblem all dieser Leitfäden, Handlungsanweisungen und -empfehlungen: Niemand weiß so genau, ob diese im Fall der Fälle greifen. Zwar lassen sich aus den Erfahrungen bisheriger Katastrophen Empfehlungen formulieren, doch auch Simulationen und vergleichbare Ansätze können nicht alle Eventualitäten voraussehen. Oftmals entfalten kleine, bislang nicht oder nur unzureichend bedachte Faktoren eine ungeahnte Wirkung.
Daher wird im Krisenfall der Führung eine besondere Bedeutung zuteil. Sie muss auf Grundlage von vorhersehbaren und unvorhersehbareren Ereignissen die optimale Entscheidung treffen. In solchen Fällen ist ein fundiertes Risiko- und Krisenmanagement gefragt. Diese Master-Thesis geht der Frage nach, was man bei der Bewältigung von Krisen von Unternehmen lernen kann, die für die kritische Infrastrukturkomponenten verantwortlich sind. Wie diese Arbeit zeigt, lassen sich daraus für verschiedene Bereiche mit Führungsverantwortung Schlussfolgerungen ziehen. [more]

Die Abschlussarbeit entstand im Studiengang Wirtschaftsinformatik (Business Information Management) im Sommersemester 2014 an der RFH Köln. Social Media und der zugehörige direkte Kundendialog gehören bei Unternehmen schon länger zum Marketingmix. Durch Facebook Commerce bietet sich inzwischen zudem eine neue direkte Absatzmöglichkeit. Die vorliegende Untersuchung befasst sich explorativ mit Facebook Commerce als einer direkten Absatzmöglichkeit für einen bestehenden Onlinehändler, der rein pflanzliche (vegane) Lebensmittel vertreibt, also Nischenprodukte. In Zusammenarbeit mit dem darauf spezialisierten Onlinehändler Smilefood.de wurde testweise ein Facebook-Shop implementiert. Eine SWOT-Analyse untersuchte die Potentiale für Smilefood in Bezug auf Facebook und auf Social Commerce. So konnten Handlungsempfehlungen für Smilefood hergeleitet werden. Die Teilnehmer des empirischen Teils der Untersuchung wurden in Bezug auf das Potential von Facebook Commerce am Nischenmarkt der veganen Produkte befragt. Dabei lautete die leitende Forschungsfrage: „In welchem Maße könnte Facebook Commerce zu einem verkaufsfördernden Mehrwert für den Smilefood-Onlineshop führen?“ Dieses Ebook erscheint in der Schriftenreihe zur veganen Kommunikationsforschung, in der auch Arbeiten von Nachwuchswissenschaftlern – Absolventen und Studierenden – zur Publikation gelangen.
