Alice Hegan Rice, also known as Alice Caldwell Hegan, (January 11, 1870 – February 10, 1942) was an American novelist. Born in Shelbyville, Kentucky, she wrote over two dozen books, the most famous of which is Mrs. Wiggs of the Cabbage Patch. The book was a best seller in 1902 and is set in Louisville, Kentucky where she then lived. It was made into a successful play in 1903, and there were three Hollywood movie versions of it. [more]

Chase besucht die "akademische Zauberkunst-HighSchool" und hatte den Auftrag erhalten, eine Maschine oder einen Roboter zu bauen, der auch ohne Magie funktioniert. Wie das Schicksal es jedenfalls so wollte, ist Chase (ehrlich gesagt) nicht der Begabteste in diesem Bereich und bastelt sein Roboter-Flughörnchen "Patch" mit ein paar unbemerkten Fehlern. Die Folgen: wenn sich der Fehler wieder 'mal bemerkbar macht, bleibt Patch hängen (weshalb er gleich mal umfällt) und kann sich für einen kurzen Moment nicht mehr bewegen. Hinter dem Rücken seiner Schwester Abigail, wendet Chase nun doch Zauberei an, was aber noch mehr Folgen mit sich zieht (und keiner diese bemerkt): Patch hat nun zwar "Leben" in sich, aber zudem auch einen "kleinen" Dachschaden, wodurch er sich Groooosses vornimmt und seine verkorksten Pläne, so schnell es geht, in die Tat umsetzen will..
